The liquid bait in the top portion of the trap is designed for worker ants to consume, survive long enough to carry it back to the nest, and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony. Ants enter the trap, consume the liquid bait, and return to the nest to pass it on to the rest of the colony. The active ingredient in the bait slowly interferes with the ants' digestive systems, eventually killing them.

The paste bait in the base of the trap contains protein to attract and kill roaches, silverfish, and non-sweet-eating ants. Insects can access the bait through 3 entry points and will slowly die after consuming it. The sweet liquid bait attracts and kills both visible ants and unseen ones, as worker ants carry and deliver a lethal dose to the rest of the colony.
